Rangers transfer news on Berke Ozer

Glasgow Rangers have now reportedly made a bid to bring a Turkish goalkeeper to Ibrox on a free transfer this summer.

The Lowdown: Out of Contract

Reports from Turkey have claimed that the Light Blues have taken the first big step towards strengthening their goalkeeping ranks.

Berke Ozer is out of contract at Fenerbahce at the end of the month, meaning he will become a free agent once his contract expires.

The 6ft 3in goalkeeper has made 19 appearances in all competitions in 2021/22, including three Europa League appearances, and he has kept five clean sheets in total (Transfermarkt).

The latest: Ozer’s transfer offer

According to Turkish outlet En Son Haber, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers have now made an offer to sign the 22-year-old, who has been confirmed to leave Fenerbahce after his contract runs out.

He was thought to have already signed for Belgian club Anderlecht but that is no longer the case, with Portuguese giants Benfica also believed to be interested in signing him.

The verdict: McGregor’s replacement?

The report claims Ozer is “eager” to join Rangers as he could take over from Allan McGregor as the Teddy Bears’ new number one.

According to Sky Sports, the Light Blues have not opened talks over a new contract for the 40-year-old, whose contract also expires this summer.

Should Rangers sign Ozer?

Consequently, Ozer could be brought in to replace the Scottish veteran in an identical fashion, and the Turk is much younger at 22, so he could establish himself as a mainstay at Ibrox for the next few years if he comes to Glasgow.
